Trails are the most sought after recreation amenity for communities in North America. The North Head trail, located in Signal Hill National Historic Site welcomes over 3,000 hikers per day in peak season and has called “one of St. John’s most intense and picturesque city hikes”.

This Park is one of the most highly regarded and well used public spaces in the City. The natural water swimming pool is one of the many beautiful features of this signature park.

The purpose of the project was to enhance the visitor experience by offering a quality hiking trail that meets visitor needs. The work involved significant rehabilitation and replacement of trail infrastructure, and reducing operational costs by detailing and building more robust structures while improving the integrity of the trail system. This was a very difficult area to access. Getting materials to the site was both difficult and dangerous. To overcome the challenge, working closely with Parks Canada, a zipline was constructed to lower materials down the cliff face to the trail.
